According to Sadbhawana Party Chairman Rajendra Mahato, also health minister in the current government, the parties argued that fresh general elections could be held once the political parties forge consensus on outstanding issues of constitution writing, including federalism.
The meeting also ruled out any possibility of formation of a consensus government. It, however, concluded that such a government under Nepali Congress’s leadership could be accepted if the prickly issues of new constitution are resolved first.
A day earlier, the meeting between the NC and the UML had discussed the current political scenario and decided to step up protest against the government. The joint meeting of the opposition parties also decided to hold ´decisive talks´ with the UCPN (Maoist) today and prepare strategy after taking note of the Maoists´ stance.
