KATHMANDU, April 30: Two leaders from Nepali Congress and CPN-UML have said on Monday that talks with the UCPN-Maoist dissident faction and some Madhesi leaders are ongoing to bring down the incumbent Maoist-led government.

Speaking at Reporters Club Nepal in the capital, NC Central Working Committee member Narayan Khadka said they are going to bring in a no-confidence motion against the government and that they have already garnered required majority to topple the government. [break]

He also asserted that the long-standing disputes of state restructuring and federalism has no resolution as long as the present Baburam Bhattarai-led government is in office.

On the occasion, UML Secretary Shankar Pokharel expressed his opinion that disbanding of the current government has become imperative so as to promulgate the new constitution and said they want a consensus government to take over before they resort to a no-confidence vote.

“We will try our best to forge consensus through track one. If that does not work, we will resort to track two and bid farewell to Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai,” Pokharel said.

Pokharel also blamed the protracted disputes regarding state restructuring and forms of governance on the internal feud in the Maoist party. “There will be no new constitution unless a consensus government, inclusive of major political parties, is formed,” he added.
