Police have begun interrogation with the arrested hooligans, according to Spokesperson for Metropolitan Police Range office, Hanumandhoka DSP Dhiraj Pratap Singh. He said the police have also intensified search for others involved in the attack. [break]
The hooligans, who identified themselves as cadres of Shiv Sena Nepal, had stormed into the office of Nepal Republic Media at JDA Complex taking strong exception to the news published in the Shukrabar Weekly and manhandled Kishor Nepal, editor-in-chief of Nagarik and Shukrabar.
Meanwhile, various political leaders have visited Nepal Republic Media to enquire about the incident. They condemned the attack and expressed solidarity with the press. Nepali Congress Vice-chairman Ram Chandra Paudel, CPN-UML Spokesperson Pradeep Gynawali, professor P Kharel, media experts Kundan Aryal, Chiranjivi Khanal and a team led by FNJ Vice-president Yashodha Timilina also visited the Republica office in Sundhara.
INSEC, National Human Rights Foundation (HURFON), Human Right and Peace Society (HURPES), Nepal Bar Association have issued press statements demanding strong action against the miscreants.
On the other hand Shiva Sena Nepal in a statement has demanded unconditional release of its arrested cadres.
