Madhes-based parties have once again threatened to obstruct the EC´s voter registration campaign. What do you have to say?

The EC has been conducting its program under constitutional and legal provisions. We always respect the constitution, law and Supreme Court verdicts. The EC cannot go against SC verdicts and existing legal provisions.[break]

Do you mean to say that the EC is not halting its programs related to voter registration despite the warnings by Madhes-based parties?

Why should we halt our ongoing program of voter registration? Let me make it clear that we won´t stop our programs since they were launched across the country following the SC verdict which clearly stated that citizenship should be made the legal basis for voter registration.

Don´t you think that Madhes-based parties are politicizing the citizenship issue?

The Election Commission can resolve financial, administrative and technical issues if any in the voter registration process. But, we don´t deal with the political dimensions. It is the duty of the government and parties concerned to resolve political problems.
