Public Hearing Special Committee names two SC judges

KATHMANDU, Jan 17: Public Hearing Special Committee (PHSC) of the Parliament has recommended appointment of two temporary judges working in the Supreme Court (SC).



A meeting of PHSC held on Monday approved Prakash Chandra Sharma Basti and Bharat Raj Upreti for their appointment as permanent SC judges.



While Upreti´s name was endorsed unanimously, there was no unanimous decision regarding Basti´s appointment.



Madhesh-based parties expressed concern over Basti´s appointment for his recent ruling that made Nepali citizenship mandatory during voter name list collection programme.



Both of their tenure is expiring Jan. 23.
