Dhakal, 58, was hit by a motorcycle rode by one Milan Basnet in front of Nepal Police Club at 10 am. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Bir Hospital.
Dhakal taught statistics at Prithvi Narayan Campus and Janapriya Campus for a long time and also published around 18 literary works, including collection of essays, novel and narrative poetry.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
His only son Bijay was killed by the army in Kaski district during the Maoist insurgency.
