In a press statement, President Yadav acknowledged that various festivals marked by the different communities in the country are the cultural identities of Nepal.[break]
“These festivals help to strengthen the unity, social cohesion and religious tolerance among the different casts, religions and communities in the country,” reads the statement.
President Yadav also expressed his hope that the Chhath Festival would turn into a cultural identity of Nepal.
This year´s Chhath festival being marked for four days started in the eastern region of the country Wednesday.
The devotees begin the festival by having pure food items popularly known as Aruwa-Aruwain among the devotees. On the second day of the festival, the devotees observe fasting and prepare rice pudding on a fresh earthen oven, and receive as prasad after offering to the God. Likewise, on the third day, the devotees offer Argha (curd) to the setting sun by reaching the shores of ponds and the festival concludes by after offering Argha to the rising sun.
