KATHMANDU, July 16: The Federation of Community School Management Committees Nepal has urged the government to reconsider its decision to make Sunday a weekly holiday for schools.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, the federation representatives said the move would make it difficult for schools to complete the annual curriculum and could negatively affect students' academic performance. It called on the government to continue operating schools on Sundays. The government had introduced Sunday holidays for government offices and schools as part of efforts to ease fuel demand.

Federation Chairman Kashinath Dangal said the organization's recent national convention had passed a resolution calling for schools to continue operating six days a week, warning that reducing school days would lower learning outcomes.
He also accused the government of amending the Education Regulations for the tenth time without consulting the federation and attempting to curtail the authority of school management committees.
Former federation chairman Gunaraj Muktan said the role and presence of local communities in school management should not be undermined.
