In the talks held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, Sheetal Niwas, on Tuesday morning, the President and the UCPN (Maoist) chairman discussed about the latest efforts being made by the political parties for forging consensus. The talks lasted for about an hour.[break]
During the meeting, discussions were held on the political parties making efforts towards consensus until tomorrow and giving a way out to the country from the political crisis, said Chudamani Khadka, personal secretary to the UCPN (Maoist) chairman Dahal.
President Yadav and UCPN (Maoist) chairman Dahal discussed that the protagonist forces of the People´s Movement should move forward as one rather than as a divided force in the context of the deepening political crisis.
The two leaders also held talks on holding new election to the constituent assembly by mid-May this year. They agreed that all forces should be united as the forces opposed to the change were becoming active as the political crisis deepened which might put the achievements made through the sacrifices of the people in jeopardy.
The President began talks since Monday with Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, leaders of different political parties and lawyers in an effort at seeking a way out of the political crisis. The President´s meeting with the UCPN (Maoist) chairman is also a part of this effort.
President Yadav is holding discussions with various civil society leaders throughout the day today on the issue of political way out.
Meanwhile, President of the Rastriya Janashakti Party (RJP) and former Prime Minister, Surya Bahadur Thapa, also called on President at the Rashtrapati Bhawan and discussed on the way out of the present political crisis.
During the meeting, President Yadav said that the parties should forge consensus for holding the election as it is the appropriate alternative for a way out of the present political transition.
Thapa said that his party has also emphasized on holding the election after forming a national consensus government, but the main responsibility of forging consensus lied with the three big parties, said Thapa´s aide Kiran Giri.
