BIRATNAGAR, Dec 28: Police fired warning shots to control cannabis traffickers near the border area of Jahada Rural Municipality in Morang district on Saturday night.
According to police, two Indian nationals were arrested with 330 kilograms of cannabis after police opened fire while trying to detain them. The incident occurred around 10:30 pm in Tarigaun of Jahada–2, close to the Nepal–India border.
Police destroy cannabis but never arrest farmers
Police said the suspects attempted to flee after abandoning sacks of cannabis they were carrying on their heads upon spotting the police team. To bring them under control, police fired one round into the air using a Chinese pistol.
The arrested individuals have been identified as 24-year-old Abdul Hasan and 30-year-old Sohel Khan, both residents of Araria district, India.
Morang Police Chief Kabit Katwal confirmed that the two Indian nationals were arrested during an operation against cannabis trafficking after police fired a warning shot.
