“No matter how much they cry, the current government will be in place until the people´s aspirations [for peace and constitution] are materialized. There is no point in resigning until the peace and constitution drafting processes reach a logical conclusion,” said Bhattarai while addressing a rally held to mark the 17th anniversary of the "People´s War". He asserted that no power centers will be able to remove him from the post of prime minister without conclusion of the peace and constitution writing processes.

“At a time when even the NC and UML have not demanded my resignation, those making such demands are really anti-peace and anti-constitution elements,” he said, referring to the party´s radical faction that is vociferously demanding his resignation to pave the way for a “national consensus” government.
The prime minister stated that attempts are being made to bring the NC and UML to the government. But he argued that if the parties give an option to the current coalition and guarantee the completion of the peace and constitution drafting process, he is ready to step down.
“If I quit the government under the current circumstances it will be a great irresponsibility on my part,” he said.
Bhattarai also drew the attention of the political parties toward the deadline for framing a new constitution. “If a constitution is not framed by May 28, we will lose the political achievements made so far,” he said.
