Addressing the 12th standing committee meeting of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) here on Saturday, the prime minister expressed his belief that the ICAPP would be developed into an Asian Parliament and will issue a common currency for the Asia and Pacific region. ICAPP was developed as a common forum to strengthen relations and trust and extend mutual help among the Asian countries by exchanging views of politicians, the prime minister said.
Saying that Nepal has followed a policy of cultivating friendly relations with all countries around the world and particularly Asian counties on the basis of Panchasheel, the prime minister said Nepal is committed to non-alignment and promotion of peace, stability and disarmament.
He added that the abolition of 240- year-old monarchy from Nepal was possible due to the historic People´s Movement in 2006 that was backed by the international community.
Saying Nepal is in political transition, the prime minister said the country has challenges of institutionalizing inclusive democracy, establishing federalism and maintaining rule of law.
He expressed his confidence that the country will get a historical political achievement after the constitution is drafted on time.
He said the government is committed to take the peace process to the logical conclusion and added that the special committee on army integration and technical committee were working for the integration of the Maoist combatants.
He said economic and social transformations were required to improve the living standards of Nepali people and stressed on the need for common efforts of the ICAPP for poverty alleviation in the region.
ICAPP co-chairman Jose de Venecia said the Asian countries are resolving their political problems through mutual discussions.
On the occasion, Chairman of CPN-UML Jhala Nath Khanal stressed on the need for the Asian countries to work in trade and culture sectors by expanding their relations.
Politicians from Nepal, China, Singapore, Pakistan, Thailand, Japan, Korea, Philippines, and other Asian countries are taking part in the meeting.
