Addressing the Constituent Assembly (CA) meeting on Sunday, Prime Minister Koirala said the international community will support the constitution promulgated by over 90 percent of the elected CA members. "The international community will also support the constitution promulgated by this CA," the prime minister said. "Any democratic country will support it."Prime Minister Koirala said that he has already conveyed to the international community the resolve of the major political parties to promulgate the new statute. "We want to take all the parties on board," he said adding, "We need your support." He also mentioned that the efforts to bring the agitating parties on board could not succeed. He went on to say that the entire international community, including neighboring countries, the United Nations and the European Union, would welcome this historic development.
Prime Minister Koirala refuted claim of a section of political parties that the army had been mobilized. "Where is the army mobilization?" he asked. "Security arrangements have been made at local level in coordination with all security agencies," he pointed out.
The prime minister mentioned that there have been violence on the part of agitating party cadres, such as vandalizing of lawmakers' houses, torching party offices and destroying police offices and court houses. "Is this what peaceful protest means?" the prime minister asked. He urged the international community to exercise caution over misleading news.
Also speaking on the occasion, NC General Secretary Krishna Sitaula said neighboring countries and other members of the international community will help Nepal in this historic achievement of bringimg a new statute. "The constitution promulgated by the CA will enjoy support from neighboring countries, the United Nations and the rest of the international community," he said.
