PHSC endorses Shrestha as chief justice of SC

KATHMANDU, March 25: Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee (PHSC) on Thursday approved the nomination of seniormost justice Ram Prasad Shrestha as the chief justice of the Supreme Court (SC) unanimously.



Shrestha will succeed incumbent Chief Justice Anup Raj Sharma who is retiring on March 26.



Shrestha, who has been serving in the judiciary for the last 34 years, has the reputation of passing bold verdicts, especially during the king´s direct rule and has a clean image.



He was born in 2003 BS and has an MA in political science and a bachelor´s degree in law.



Shrestha joined the Supreme Court on January 29, 2003 as a temporary judge.
