"The peasants have set a good example. They have contributed to protecting the forest and wildlife by not grazing their cattle," said Chhetra Bikram Khand, assistant forest officer at the Department of Forests. [break]"We rewarded 10 peasants from 5 different community forests of Bhandarbhar forest area so as to send out a positive message," he added.
According to Khand, the cash prizes under the ´President Chure Conservation Program´ were announced and distributed from this year only. "Now onward, it will be given every year."
"It poses threat to the animals in the jungle when people sneak in to graze their cattle. Gradually the grazing pastures expand into the forests affecting the wildlife," Khand said.
