Star hotels and resorts in the capital maintain there has been only a marginal growth in bookings compared to the same period last year. [break]
Bharat Joshi, Director, Sales and Marketing at Hotel Yak and Yeti, said 87, 86 and 65 percent hotel rooms have been booked for October, November and December respectively. The bookings have been 81, 85 and 57 percent for these months last year.
This season, Soaltee Crowne Plaza is expecting a growth of 10 percent in occupancy. Sony Chaudhary, Assistant Manager, Marketing and Public Relations at Soaltee Crowne Plaza, maintains the growth is just natural, nothing to write home about.
Hotel Annapurna, which has recently completed renovation of its rooms, is seeing a marginal growth in business this season. Avik JB Singh, Deputy Sales and Marketing Manager of the hotel, said there has been a 4-5 percent growth in bookings for the October- December period.
The booking status at Annapurna stands at 80 percent for October and 90 percent for November.
Bookings at Everest Hotel stand at 90 percent for October and November and 75 percent for December. Ashwini Acharya, Senior Director, Sales and Marketing at the five-star hotel, says the growth is certainly not what you expect in a tourism year.

However, Gokarna Forest Resort, which also boasts a world class golf course and lies within the city limits, is expecting a growth of 25 to 30 percent in occupany.
Kaushal K.C, Director Sales and Marketing, said the growth in occupany has not been up to his expectations. The resort has received bookings for 95 percent of the hotel rooms for October and 98 percent for November.
Acharya at Everest Hotel says the marginal growth in bookings and occupancy has been the result of individual effort of the company rather than the impact of Nepal Tourism Year (NTY) 2011. However, he said because of the delayed publicity of NYT, more tourists may come in the future and business could be better.
