With viral fever spreading across 20 VDCs in the district, doctors are having a hard time treating the patients. Patients are being kept and treated at a local Ganga Hotel, Dr Jiwan Thapa said. “The sudden rise in the number of viral fever patients has resulted in the shortage of beds at the center,” Thapa said. After the spread of the viral fever, around 150 patients are being admitted to the center every day. Earlier, only around 50 patients visited the hospital every day. Currently, as many as 2,000 patients are receiving treatment at the Burtiwang Primary Health Center. An equal number of patients are being treated at other local heath centers.
Most of the patients are suffering from viral fever, meningitis, and typhoid.
The fever has affected people of all age groups. With a majority of school students affected by the fever, regular classes in schools have also been disrupted.
Kamal Paudel, a teacher at Tribhuwan Lower Secondary School, said that with teachers and students contracting viral fever regular classes have been hampered.
District Public Health Office has dispatched medicine and health workers to areas affected by viral fever. “We´ve sent medicine and health workers to the areas most affected by viral fever,” Arjun Kumar Adhikari, an official at the DPHO said. A few cases of hepatitis have also been reported.
