The university teachers close to Nepali Congress and UCPN (Maoist) had padlocked the administration office of the universities after the previous Jhalanath Khanal-led government appointed vice chancellors (VC).[break]
The teachers decided to withdraw all the ongoing protest programs after Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai agreed to appoint VCs through a "legitimate" mechanism.
Bhattarai, who is also the chancellor of all universities, has dubbed the appointments of vice chancellors by the previous government as "politically and morally erroneous" Monday.
Meanwhile, the ongoing central committee meeting of the CPN-UML has objected to the prime minister´s decision to reconsider the appointments.
