Rajesh Khadka, president of Private and Boarding Schools’ Organization Nepal, said that it is difficult to get sponsors for the school-level tournaments but it is necessary to initiate the programs from grass-root level for the development of sports.[break]
“It is not enough to give training only to matured players. We should develop sports from the primary level,” said Khadka during a press conference in the capital on Friday.
The cost of the tournament is estimated to be Rs 1.1 million. Half of the amount will be funded by the main sponsor Mega Bank.
Mega Bank’s Chief Executive Officer Anil Shah said that no game can flourish if the base is not strong. “Our support to Three Star Club is to reap the fruit that is already ripe but our support for the school-level game is to create a strong base for the future,” he said.
Three teams each from eastern, central and western regions while two from mid-western and one from far-western region will compete in the tournament. The winning team will receive at least Rs 50,000.
