NT's daily earning touches Rs 70 million

KATHMANDU, March 14: The average daily turnover of Nepal Telecom (NT) -- the state owned telecommunication company - has reached Rs 70 million. It earned total revenue of Rs 13.1 billion during July to December 2008.



Buddhi Acharya, deputy managing director of NT, said the company earned Rs 12.46 billion during the first half of current fiscal year. [break]



NT has been providing a wide range of services, including PSTN telephone, mobile service (GSM and CDMA), ADSL and internet data card among others.



“We also earned Rs 468 million as interest from its bank deposits,” Acharya said.



Despite tough competition in the telecom market with the entry of new players, the revenue of NT is growing significantly. NT has managed to expand its subscribers´ base from 672,000 from a year ago to 4.91 million.



NT is the highest profit making public enterprises in the country. It is also the largest taxpayer in the country. NT paid Rs 12.24 billion in tax, royalty and dividend to the government in fiscal year 2008/09.
