KATHMANDU, Nov 1: National Vigilance Center (NVC) -- a government body promoting good governance in government offices -- has arrived at the conclusion that Nepal Food Corporation (NFC) intentionally raised the number of goats that died in its captivity before the Dashain festival.

NVC had started investigation amid reports that NFC officials distributed goats procured for the Dashain festival to senior officials and some influential persons by manipulating the number of goats that died in its captivity.[break]

Indra Dangi, Deputy Superintendent of Police at NVC, told Republica they found the carcass of only 100 goats at the burial site. “We are now confirmed that NFC officials raised the number of dead goats to 250 heads,” Dangi said.

NFC officials allegedly raised the number of dead goats to cover up the distribution of goats to influential persons.

The state-owned food distributor had procured a total of 3,855 goats from different parts of the country to distribute in the capital for the Dashain festival. NFC had managed to sell only 3,605 of them. Last year, 27 goats had died in its captivity.
