Nepal drawn in group D

KATHMANDU, Feb 14: Nepal has been drawn in Group D along with Jordan, Uzbekistan, Yemen and Bangladesh for the AFC U-22 Asian Cup Qualifiers. The official draw for the tournament was held on Tuesday at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.



This is the first time that AFC is organizing the age group tournament.[break]



According to the official website of AFC, altogether 41 member associations of AFC had registered their names during the groupings. The qualifiers will be held from June 23 to July 3 later this year in centralized venues.



The 41 participating teams are divided into seven groups with six teams each in six groups and one group comprising five teams. Altogether 15 teams, including the winner and runner-up of each group, will be selected for the finals of the competition to be played in 2013. Similarly, the best second runner-up from among all the groups and the host nation will also qualifty for the finals.

Group A: UAE, Iraq, Oman, India, Turkmenistan, Lebanon

Group B: Saudi Arabia, Syria, Pakistan, Palestine, Kyrgyzstan, Sri Lanka

Group C: Bahrain, Iran, Tajikistan, Qatar, Kuwait, Maldives

Group D: Uzbekistan, Jordan, Yemen, Bangladesh, Nepal

Group E: Australia, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, Macau, Timor Leste

Group F: DPR Korea, China, Thailand, Hong Kong, Laos, Cambodia

Group G: Korea Republic, Vietnam, Malaysia, Myanmar, Chinese Taipei, Philippines
