Speaking at a function organized to launch airing of Maithili drama in the capital, Nembang said, “If political parties iron out their differences and unite for the larger good of the nation, the new constitution will be written within the stipulated time.”
Also speaking at the function, Minister for Culture, Federalism and Constituent Assembly Affairs, Dr Mrigendra Rizal maintained that all must accept the diversity in the country and address concerns of the ethnic groups. “It is urgent that those communities be given equal opportunities and facilities,” Rizal added.
Highlighting the importance of recognizing the ethnic communities´ role in the constitution drafting, Danish ambassador to Nepal Finn Thilsted said that the “distance between Kathmandu and the rest of Nepal is increasing”. He stressed on the importance of creating “a common understanding and common ground.”
“Diversity is a reality of Nepal, but it has also become a problem. If we do not secure inclusiveness, the whole peace process will have no strength,” he said.
The speakers also stressed on the importance of ethnic programs like ´Sangor´, a weekly radio drama program, in uniting the people. Sangor drama series aim to bring forth the issues confronting the Maithili community and highlight problems of the youth.
It has targeted some 300,000 people in the valley who can read and understand Maithali language. Sangor will be aired from Headlines and Music FM from Saturday in the valley. It is so far being aired from 10 other FM stations from outside Kathmandu.
Sangor group also condemned the killing of Arun Singhaniya, the publisher of Janakpur Today daily on Monday in Janakpur, and called for immediate action against those behind the murder.
