The meeting held at the party´s headquarters in Sanepa took a decision not to withdraw its prime ministerial candidacy unless there is a guarantee of a democratic constitution and conclusion of the ongoing peace process.[break]
During the meeting, NC President Sushil Koirala and the party´s parliamentary leader Ram Chandra Poudel expressed their views on current political deadlock. President Koirala had also briefed the meeting about his meeting with envoys from various countries recently.
Likewise, Dr Ram Sharan Mahat briefed the meeting on the progress made so far by the Special Committee for Supervision, Integration and Rehabilitation of the Maoist combatants and differences the NC has had with the Maoists, according to a CWC member Badri Pandey.
The next CWC meeting scheduled for 10:30 am Friday will hold detailed discussions on current political situation, including the party´s candidacy for new prime minister. The lone prime ministerial candidate Ram Chandra Poudel is bracing for the 14th round of voting on Friday after all previous rounds of voting failed to yield results.
Talking to media persons after the meeting, Poudel said NC would withdraw its candidacy only if the Maoists arrive at consensus on four key issues including concrete commitment to conclude the ongoing peace process and promulgate a democratic constitution, power sharing and the prime ministerial candidate. “Nepali Congress will withdraw its candidacy only if there is an agreement on all these issues,” he said.
According to CWC member Arjun Nara Singh KC, the meeting also formed a statute amendment committee under Krishna Prasad Sitaula as per the suggestions received from general convention representatives and a separate committee under KC to prepare the party´s regulation.
Likewise, another committee under Mahesh Acharya has been formed to incorporate suggestions received from general convention representatives in the party´s plans and policy document and give it a final shape.
During the meeting, party General Secretary Prakash Man Singh had presented the decisions made by general convention.
Dip Kumar Upadhyaya, who headed the party´s finance committee formed for the 12th general convention, presented income and expenditure statement. According to Upadhyay, the party had a total income of Rs 27.6 million and 26.4 million expenditure.
New faces in the first CWC meeting
A majority of leaders taking part in the CWC meeting were new faces. Senior leader of the party Sher Bahadur Deuba, who was defeated in the general convention and nominated as CWC member by President Koirala, was also present in the meeting. As per the party statute, elected president of the party nominates a total 21 CWC members.
Though Koirala nominated Deuba as one of the CWC member, he is yet to nominate 20 other members to give full shape to the 85-member CWC body.
Yadav elected Saptari NC Prez
RAJBIRAJ, Oct 28: Dinesh Yadav has been elected as the president of the district working committee in the district convention of the Nepali Congress held in Saptari.
Of the total 1,184 votes cast during the election, Yadav secured a total of 678 votes.
His nearest rival Ramu Yadav secured 441 votes. Yadav is said to be close to Sher Bahadur Deuba. Sabur Lal Yadav and Shambu Jha have been elected as the district working committee secretary and treasurer, respectively.
The district convention of NC in Saptari district was put off following differences between Dinesh Yadav and former district committee president Ram Kumar Chaudhary.
