Senior leaders said the NC´s eastern regional orientation of party leaders set to begin in Itahari from Tuesday will place the party´s overall Madhes policy as one of the main agenda for discussions. [break]
The party is preparing to revise its policy on Tarai-Madhes based on the feedback and suggestions received from district leaders of the region.
Altogether 121 representatives, including two each from all 56 electoral zones of eastern region, are participating in the two-day gathering organized by the NC´s Central Policy and Orientation Academy (CPOA). "The gathering is aimed at finding out the burning issues faced by the village-level cadres.
Among other things, it will review the party´s Madhes policy based on the feedback of party colleagues from the region," said NC General Secretary Prakash Man Singh.
Singh said the CPOA recently held a meeting with the party´s CWC members and lawmakers from Tarai-Madhes to learn about the problems faced by the party in the region. "We will hold discussions on how the party can move ahead with regard to the Madhes agenda," he further said.
While the top leaders of the party will brief the district-level leaders about the progress made so far in the peace and statute drafting process, the participating representatives will apprise the party leadership of the problems faced by the party in their respective areas and suggest new policy measures. The CPOA is planning to hold similar gatherings in the other four development regions soon to get the views of party leaders on system of governance and state restructuring.
With the emergence of various regional parties, NC lost a majority of seats in the Tarai-Madhes belt during the CA election.
NC´s Madhesi leaders argue that the party leadership should be clear on the issue of federalism and embrace other agenda such as inclusion of Madhesis in all state structures, citizenship and development activities to revive the lost glory of the party in the region.
"NC can reclaim its position in the next election if the party fully embraced the Madhes agenda," argued NC lawmaker Kiran Yadav, who hails from Mahottari district.
