NC President Koirala said that Maoists are main responsible for the delay in the promulgation of new constitution. “The Maoists should be held responsible by virtue of being the largest party in the Constituent Assembly,” he said.
Koirala said even the remaining three weeks are enough for promulgation of a new constitution if the Maoists demonstrated adequate honesty. “It is not the question of time. Their honesty is under question,” he further said.
Koirala also argued that the years after the Constituent Assembly (CA) election have gone to waste due to utter irresponsiblity on the part of the Maoists. “Let us not think about post May 28 situation. The most important thing now is that the Maoists must improve their conduct,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, NC Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel asked both the Maoists and the UML to scrap the controversial seven-point deal. “The agreement is a blot in the history of political consensus,” he said, adding, “We cannot accept such agreement so it must be scrapped.”
Speaking at a separate press conference organized by NPU in Tulsipur Sunday morning, Koirala said NC is ready to work with the Maoists for the cause of peace and constitution if the Maoists came up with a concrete proposal. “Some parties in the government have shown their willingness for consensus. Nepali Congress is ready for consensus,” he said.
Referring to Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal´s remark that Maoists have prepared a package for consensus, Koirala said NC would talk to the Maoists after studying the ´package´.
