In a bid to maintain transparency, the National Business Initiative (NBI) has been urging businesspeople to make donation through banking channel. [break]
Speaking at an interaction organized by the Society of Economic Journalists-Nepal (SEJON) and NBI here on Sunday, NBI President Padam Jyoti said the district chambers can open bank accounts for collection of donations. “The NBI will monitor the account from the center,” he added.
Jyoti said the money collected in the district account will be distributed by the respective district chambers. However, the model of distribution to the political parties is yet to be finalized. The discussion to choose an appropriate model is underway, officials of NBI said.
“We will hold discussion with political parties and even with the Election Commission to select the appropriate model for distribution of donation,” added Jyoti.
The donors will get a receipt which they can show to political parties or groups seeking donations. The main objective of this system is to discourage unnecessary pressure for donations, NBI said.
NBI will audit the basket fund which will be closed after the election.
Jyoti also asked the media people to expose names of those political parties and leaders who compel people to pay donations.
Surendra Bir Malakar, general secretary of NBI, said business people were already facing pressure for donation from different political parties.
Earlier NBI unveiled the business code of conduct concepts for the business community. It had also declared that business people would not give donations to any political parties or persons with the intention of gain.
