KATHMANDU, Dec 24: With songs about Kathmandu, about legal liars and not having to answer the questions asked, the Land Lock Roots, a reggae band from Kathmandu, kicked off the Bass Camp Festival organized by KGarira.com on Sunday at 1905, Kantipath. Opening for the international acts, the band played a mix of covers as well as original songs and set the mood for the evening. DJ PhuCHheY from Nepal, followed next with his set.

The Mumbai-based duo Bay Beat Collective and underground sensation Nanci and Pheobe along with DJ Wu-Lu were the headliners for the evening, who appeared on stage late into the night to warm up the audience patiently waiting in the December chill.[break]

“We’re here to spread some love,” shared Pheobe expressing that the group felt that they could really get through to the people of Kathmandu with their music. “It feels holy here,” continued Pheobe, sharing that their music was about breaking out of a plastic-coated world and confronting realities.

DJ Wu-lu shared that although the three of them lean towards various genres, together, they share the same passion. “It’s more about trying to push an energy rather than a specific genre,” he added.

Nepali and international acts together, the Bass Camp Festival was a celebration of a bass heavy culture which really resonated with the Kathmandu crowd, like most good music.
