Mixed results in chess

KATHMANDU, Sept 8: Bhupendra Niraula and Dharam Bahadur Lama on Wednesday earned mixed results in the Asian Amateur Chess Championship being held in Brunei.

Both Bhupendra and Dharam pulled a draw and a win in the two matches they played. After playing a draw against 2071 rated Saprin Mohammed of Malaysia in the fifth round, Bhupendra, rated 2056, recorded a win over 1922 rated Gunasinghe WATS of Sri Lanka in the sixth round.

Similarly, 1927 rated Dharam held 1797 rated Kian Hwa Lim of Malaysia to a draw in the fifth round and beat 1517 rated Nurul Aina Akmar of Malaysia in the sixth round. Bhupendra, who has been unbeaten in the championship, has four points, while Dharam has 3.5 points.
