Minister Ghimire meets with WTO DG

KATHMANDU, July 4: Minister for Foreign Affairs Madhav Prasad Ghimire held a meeting with Director General of World Trade Organisation (WTO), Pascal Lamy, at WTO headquarters in Geneva on Wednesday.



Issuing a press statement on Thursday, Nepal’s Permanent Mission in Geneva said that during the meeting, Minister Ghimire the shared views on a range of issues facing Least Developed Countries (LDCs). [break]



“The two sides exchanged views on a number of important issues pertaining to LDCs in the overall context of the multilateral trading system in general and specific LDC issues to be addressed in the upcoming 9th Ministerial Meeting of WTO in particular,” reads the statement. Minister Ghimire called for positive outcomes on core LDC issues with a view to enabling them to get benefits from the rules-based multilateral trading system.



During the meeting the Director General appreciated Nepal’s efforts to mainstream trade into development policies and program and its role in the LDC consultative group in WTO.  Nepal’s Permanent Representative in Geneva Shanker Bairagi, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deepak Dhital and Deputy Permanent Representative (Commerce) at the Permanent Mission, Manoj Acharya were also present in the meeting.
