Nepali, who was serving his terms in Rasuwa jail, was transferred to Dhulikhel jail just three days ago. “Nepali was brought to Dhulikhel jail to ensure easy access to district hospital where he could receive medical attention. The transfer had taken place according to the jail regulation related to prisoners suffering from mental illness,” said Kavre Chief District Officer (CDO) Rishi Dhakal. [break]
“Around nine in the evening, I heard someone fall. I informed the jail in charge immediately,” said Reet Bahadur Sapkota, a guard at Dhulikhel jail.
“When we found Nepali lying on the floor he was still conscious. We rushed him to Dhulikhel hospital but doctors declared him dead,” said jail warden Matirka Prasad Dahal.
The district court of Rasuwa on April 2, 2013 sentenced Nepali to one and half years in jail and fined him of Rs 1,60,000.
Nepali was sharing the cell with two other inmates who were also mental challenged and serving jail terms for murder. Kavre CDO Dhakal informed that a probe committee has been formed to investigate Nepali´s death.
