Many groups follow Maoists to grab land

ITAHARI, March 1: While the issue of land seized by the erstwhile rebel Maoists during the insurgency has not been resolved more than three years after the Maoists joined the peace process, several other groups operating in the eastern districts have stepped up seizing land at various places.



Cadres of the Matrika Yadav-led CPN-Maoist have recently seized 17 bighas of land belonging to Ramjanaki Temple in Pakali of Sunsari. [break]



Chief District Officer Harihar Dahal said the District Administration Office (DAO) Sunsari has started investigation into the matter.



The Yadav-led Maoists also seized over five bighas of land belonging to Ganesh Shrestha of Khanar-5.



According to human rights organization INSEC Nepal, little-known groups Madhes Nirman Sena and Madhesi Mukti Tigers have took control over several bigahs of private land at Biratnagar-15, Biratnagar-11 and Madhesi People´s Rights Forum at Biratnagar-17.



Following their path, an ethnic group Kochila Autonomous State Council, which was formed just a few months ago, seized 20 bighas of land at Baijnathpur in Morang. Similarly, cadres of Federal Limbuwan State Council recently announced seizure of a land belonging to Mamta Limbu in Urlabari-6.



Cadres of UCPN (Maoist) have seized 175 bighas of public as well as private land in Sunsari and Morang districts in the last two months.
