Man held for trying to sell petrol in black market

KATHMANDU, Sept 29: Nepal Police has made good use of the latest technology in arresting a man in Dang, who was trying to sell petrol in black market with the help of Facebook.




Akhtar Ali was arrested by the Area Police Office, Bhaluwang after a complaint was filed against him on the Police App "Hamro Police," wrote Nepal Police on its official Facebook page on Tuesday.

According to the police, the arrested person had shared a his post stating "petrol at Rs 165 per liter, only serious buyers inbox me" on his Facebook timeline.


The Metropolitan Crime Division of Nepal Police carried out investigations after the complaint was received on the Police App. The Crime Division traced Ali to Dang and alerted the area police office of his attempt to sell petrol in the black market. He was subsequently arrested from Bhaluwang and further investigations are being carried out, the police posted on the social networking site.


Nepal Police Spokesperson DIG Kamal Singh Bam told Republica that anyone found involved in selling essential goods at exorbitant price will be charged according to the Black Marketing Act, 2032.


Meanwhile, SSP Narayan Singh Khadka, spokesperson at the Metropolitan Police Commissioner's Office, Ranipokhari said that no such cases have been recorded in the Valley so far.
