KATHMANDU, Dec 30: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has emphasized that elections are the only means to maintain peace and establish a sustainable democracy in the country.
During a meeting held with medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai, a leader of the “Save Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture, and Citizens” campaign, at her official residence in Baluwatar on Tuesday, PM Karki stressed the need to ensure the upcoming March 5 elections are conducted peacefully and fearlessly, with active participation from the public.

Acknowledging that many demands raised by Prasai align with public interest, she said the government is taking measures to address them and urged that all grievances be expressed through peaceful means. Highlighting the importance of elections to resolve political instability and uncertainty, PM Karki called on all stakeholders to actively support the national campaign to ensure a successful election.
“After bringing the country through challenging times, we are working day and night to hold elections on the scheduled date and provide a political solution,” she said. “Let us all act responsibly with the mindset that this country belongs to us and actively participate to make the elections successful.”
She reiterated that her government is committed to justice, ending corruption, and supporting marginalized communities, adding that while results may not be immediate, the foundation has been laid. The government continues to work on addressing demands and issues raised by citizens, she noted.
PM Karki also presented a picture of Lord Gautam Buddha to Prasai as a symbol of peace, encouraging continued support for the national peace campaign.
