To reduce their fatality rate by 2/3rd in Nepal and around the world, Save the Children launched its global campaign called “Everyone” in 2009 to meet the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) Four in 70 countries.[break]
As part of the campaign, Save the Children has joined hands with Him Electronics to hold a charity musical concert with Kutumba, the folk instrumental group of Kathmandu, at the Garden of Dreams, Keshar Mahal, on December 14.
The funds raised will go to helping build a birthing center in Sharmali of Baitadi District.
Kutumba previously performed two such campaign concerts in Janakpur and Dharan, on November 21 and 24 respectively.
The present event aims to call on the general public to put pressure on the government for more resources to be allocated for maternal and child health, to support health workers with better training, and to prevent children from dying needlessly and prematurely in Nepali communities.
The “Everyone” Campaign advocates information on reducing infant mortality rate (IMR) in all possible ways, like proper breastfeeding, timely vaccinations, and accessibility of medicine and hospitals.
Previous efforts of the campaign include flash mobs and displaying informative cartoons made by students at public places like the Civil Mall located in Sundhara of Kathmandu.
