Saroj Kumar Yadav, 12, who was abducted by an unknown group from Lahan while returning home from Motherland English Boarding School was set free Saturday afternoon after his relatives nabbed a kidnapper during a scuffle before handing the ransom. [break]
The kidnappers had called at Yadav´s home in the night and demanded a ransom. They again called in the morning and increased the amount to Rs 35,000 and threatened to kill him if they failed to meet their demand, according to Yadav´s paternal uncle Ram Shovit.
They had first asked Ram Shovit to come to Hospital Chowk with the money and again called him to come to Chharapati in Sonmati VDC. When the relatives reached the spot, some 4 km south of Lahan, they kidnappers called the relatives and asked them to come to a ground through the road by a canal.
When the relatives reached there at 10 am, the kidnappers asked for the money. The relatives demanded release of the boy first while the kidnappers maintained that the boy would be released from Lahan once they pay the ransom. The relatives got hold of one of the kidnappers in the ensuing scuffle and handed him over to the police.
The boy was released after a kidnapper, who was with him, fled when the arrested kidnapper told him of his arrest when he telephoned the latter to know about the situation. The boy then opened his blindfold and reached Lahan before calling home to say that he was free.
The second grader was returning home at Sukhchaina-2 with his neighboring colleague Ram Udgar Yadav when two unidentified youths joined him from Lahan-7. The youths then started talking with the boys and asked where they were going and what do their fathers do.
Saroj had answered that his father worked abroad while Ram Udgar had said that his dad was a farmer. The youths had allowed the latter to go home and taken Saroj to an unknown place him.
The relatives are furious at police for not arresting others involved in the kidnapping even after one of them was captured by them. The ward police office, Lahan, also refused to give any information about the arrested person to the media.
