BAGLUNG, Jan 26: CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal has said that there was no possibility that political parties would immediately reach to a consensus.

Opposition parties chose an agitation as a main agenda of the hour as contentious efforts aimed at finding a way out to the nation from the existing political crisis on the basis of consensus at the political level went in vain, he said.

Speaking at a press meet organised by the Press Chautari Nepal, Baglung chapter this morning, the UML Chairman accused the UCPN (Maoist) of causing obstructions in forging a consensus among the political parties.[break]

"Consensus was not possible due to ´totalitarian mindset ´ of the UCPN (Maoist)", he said.

"Now, the nation has gone to an agitation", he said, adding that current political matters would be settled through the joint agitation of the opposition parties within this winter.

Although the door to talks and negotiations was not close, programmes of protests were in the priority of the opposition parties, the UML Chairman said and warned of ousting the incumbent government by creating storm of protests nationwide.

He said the opposition parties were always in favour of consensus, adding that the nation plunged into political and constitutional crisis just because of the UCPN (Maoist) and the Madhes-based parties.

UML Chairman and former Prime Minister Khanal further accused the UCPN (Maoist)-led government of planning to dissolve the Election Commission to abort fresh Constituent Assembly election.
