Khanal asks Maoists to take lead on peace, statute

KATHMANDU, Feb 3: Chairman of CPN (UML) Jhalanath Khanal has said that there was no alternative to concluding the peace and constitution drafting processes within the next four months.



Speaking at a program in the capital Friday, he said the level of frustration among the general public has gone up owing to the protracted political transition, adding, "The big political parties should play vital roles to conclude the peace process and draft the new constitution until the last phase." [break]



Khanal blamed the UCPN (Maoist) for not implementing the past deals and not taking a lead role to complete the tasks for being a single largest party in the Legislature-Parliament.



He added that consensus among the political parties was forged in 210 different contentious issues appeared during the constitution writing.
