The Fund has already entered into agreement with 17 cooperatives to release Rs 69.5 million for the purpose. Remaining 15 cooperatives are also all set to sign agreement with the Fund, Srijana Adhikari, the Fund´s representative for Kavre, told Republica.
“The 17 cooperatives that have so far signed agreement with the Fund have already started receiving first installment of the credit,” Adhikari said. “Other installments will be released upon confirmation that credit extended by the Fund is being utilized properly.”
The cooperatives will disburse the money among jobless youths who have obtained training courses run by Kavre Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
“Most of the jobless youths are planning to open poultry and livestock farms,” Radha Krishna Shrestha, chairman of Jagaran Credit and Savings Cooperative, said. “This is because quick returns are almost guaranteed in these kinds of businesses.”
Poultry Farmers´ Forum, an umbrella organization of Kavre´s poultry farmers, said it is interested in extending training to youths who are interested in starting poultry business.
“We can help them learn techniques on raising chicken in relatively safe way so that their investment does not go to waste. We can also teach them marketing techniques,” Dayaram Mahat, the Forum´s secretary, said.
