Unveiling the report through a press meet in the capital on Tuesday, the team confirmed that Nepali had died due to negligence of the Dhulikhel jai administration. The team has found the jail administration completely apathetic towards the safety of inmates.[break]
A dispute between Nepali and another inmate Hari Sapkota is found to be the main cause behind the death of Nepali. A dispute between Nepali and Sapkota reportedly took a nasty turn later with Sapkota suffering a bleeding nose in the attack by Nepali. Irate Sapkota later stabbed Nepali with a long iron needle used for knitting bamboo stool to his chest, the report states.
Speaking at the program, team coordinator and former Constituent Assembly member Binod Pahadi accused the jail administration of becoming just a mere spectator to a clash between the two inmates. According to the report, the Chief District Officer, the District Police Chief and jailer reached the incident site only after 20 hours of the incident.
The team has demanded that the government should immediately provide compensation of Rs. 1 million to the victim´s family, book the guilty and even take necessary departmental action against the jail administrators.
Meanwhile, the National Dalits´ Commission has warned of launching an agitation if the guilty in the murder of Nepali is not brought to the book and the victim´s family was deprived of justice and compensation.
The incident took place at around 6:00 pm on December 11, 2012. Kin of Nepali have denied collecting the body that has been kept at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj.
