BHAKTAPUR, March 15: Acting Chief Justice (CJ) Damodar Prasad Sharma has said that judiciary would always remain detached from Singha Durbar despite the presence of Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi there.

Speaking at a facilitation program organized by the Nepal Bar Association, Bhaktapur unit on Friday, Acting CJ Sharma said the Supreme Court would always remain independent and that appointment of CJ Regmi to the post of chair of the Interim Council of Ministers would not have any impact on it.[break]

CJ Regmi was compelled to take charge of the Council of Ministers, owing to the complex situation faced by the country, he said, urging the legal community not to doubt over the neutral role of Mr Regmi in the judiciary. He urged all not to perform any act that could undermine judiciary and bar it from functioning independently.

Senior advocates Bed Prasad Siwakoti, Baburam Joshi, and Judge of Bhaktapur District Court Ram Prasad Oli stressed the need of maintaining clean and independent image of judiciary.

On the occasion, 35 senior advocates were honored.
