Sangita Sah fed five-year-old Rajan and 30-month-old Mehul -- sons of her husband´s younger brother Surendra --insecticide with food. Rajan breathed his last while being taken to Janakpur for treatment while Mehul died at midnight while undergoing treatment at the Janaki Health and Research Center, according to the District Police Office.[break]
Surendra, 22, and his brother Dhirendra were living separately in one house. While Surendra´s wife Geeta, 20, had three children including an infant girl, Dhirendra´s wife Sangita was childless although she was married before Geeta. The couples would frequently quarrel and Geeta along with her children had therefore gone to India two years ago to live with her husband Surendra who is working in Delhi. She had come to Janakpur with the children only recently to avoid Delhi´s winter.
“The two boys have lost their lives due to the jealousy of their aunt who was not able to bear children,” said Tara Devi Sah, a neighbor.
The two kids were eating snacks bought from a mobile vendor after eating with their aunt when Rajan passed out. Mehul also fainted when the neighbors were taking his brother to the local health post. The neighbors then took Mehul to the post assuming that the brothers may have fainted due to freezing cold.
But the health officials diagnosed that the boys had consumed poison and referred them to Janakpur. Rajan died on the way while Mehul passed away while undergoing treatment. Their bodies have been taken to the Janakpur Zonal Hospital for post mortem.
The bereaved mother, who has been weakened by giving birth to three kids by the age of 20, has lost her consciousness while her mother is ruing inviting the daughter and grandchildren to Janakpur to avoid Delhi´s winter. “I had called them here for the winter but misfortune befell us,” said the devastated grandmother.
