Israeli hospital providing service in Chhauni

KATHMANDU, May 4: Sabita Bohara (KC), wife of Dr Rajesh KC, gave birth to a baby girl inside the tent.

Rajesh himself is a doctor at the Army Hospital run by the Nepalese Army. He took his wife to the camp run by the Israeli Army for lack of space at the Birendra Military Hospital for the treatment as it was flooded with a large number of people, injured in the earthquake occurred on April 25.


The Israeli Army has been providing health services from a makeshift hospital inside the tent at the premises of the Army Hospital from April 28 for the treatment of those injured in the quake. A total of five women have given birth to a child so far inside the tent.

A total of five beds have been managed inside the tent for pregnant women. Sabita, who gave birth to a child first in the tent, said, "I did not feel any difficulty here. I am happy."

All services including emergency, OPD, among others, necessary in the hospital, are provided there. In the beginning, doctors working in the emergency ward examine a patient. After that, he/she is admitted at the hospital if they have to undergo further treatment or operation.

Spokesperson at the Israeli Hospital, Lieutenant Libby Weiss, said that all medical tools and equipments required for treatment are brought from Israel. A total of 200 health workers including 40 doctors have been providing the health services there.
Kalpana Dhital, who was rescued alive from the rubble of a five-storey house in Chhauni, is undergoing treatment there.

Spokesperson Weiss said that among those who visited the hospital, 12 people underwent surgery so far. Similarly 400 injured people have already received health services.

Sukram Tamang, 13, of Ramche, Rasuwa, expressed happiness over the services provided by the Israeli doctors. A helicopter of the Nepali Army rescued different people along with Tamang. He received injuries to his leg after a house collapsed.
Tamang, with tear-filled eyes, said, "I am reborn but lost my leg."

Nurse at the Hospital, Major Harush said that most of the patients of trauma have visited the hospital.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 1,000 doctors of 100 national teams and 700 doctors of 70 international teams have been mobilized for the treatment of the quake-hit people. RSS
