Immediately after Dahal gave such an assurance, leaders from other parties were quick to respond saying, “We are optimistic that Prachandaji (Dahal) will keep his words."[break]
During the meeting at Shital Niwas, top leaders of the major political parties expressed displeasure over the reports submitted by the State Restructuring Commission (SRC) and told President Yadav that they would jointly work for a consensual federal model of the country.
“We had differences over the federal model and had formed the State Restructuring Commission hoping that experts would recommend a consensual model. They dashed our expectations,” said a source quoting the top political leaders.
The president enquired if constitution writing and the peace process would conclude before the expiry of Constituent Assembly (CA) term.
President Yadav had hosted a breakfast meeting with Maoist Chairman Dahal, NC President Sushil Koirala and CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal at his residence to urge them to forge consensus on outstanding issues of the peace process and constitution writing.
The extended CA term, which is the last as per the Supreme Court ruling, will expire on May 28. The president had frequently reminded the leaders of the apex court ruling.
“He asked us why there has been no breakthrough in the peace process and constitution writing," NC President Koirala, said about the meeting.
The head of the state also drew the attention of the leaders to the delay in getting the three bills related to money laundering endorsed and urged them to forge consensus at the earliest.
The president also expressed his concern over rampant deforestation taking place in different parts of the country, especially in the far western region.
