In his statement to the Morang District Court, Deepak admitted to planning to sell off both the kidneys of a 10-year-old Nepali girl in Lalitgunj of India.
The duo working in a biscuit factory in Duhabi were about to take the minor Sita Pradhan (name changed) of Tankisinwari - 10 to Lalitgunj when the locals stopped them and handed over to the police. “We did it just for Rs IC 40, 000, but were arrested,” said Deepak, who is in police custody.
However, Sarita, unaware of Deepak´s statements, told the police that the girl was actually being taken to her house in Lalitgunj area and she is not at all involved in the kidney racket.
Deepak, as he has been living in Nepal for 20 years, has already obtained Nepali citizenship. Sarita has been living in Nepal for the last five years.
Preliminary police investigation shows that Lalitgunj of India is the transit point for kidney sale. “We are pretty sure that Lalitgunj is the transit point," said Morang SP Upaprasad Chaturvedi. “This is a very serious crime. We need to get to its roots.”
