NEW DELHI, May 30: Officials from India and Pakistan are discussing ways to reduce the presence of troops on the world´s highest battlefield, located in disputed Himalayan territory.

Defense secretaries from the two countries are examining ways to demilitarize the Siachen Glacier, where thousands of troops are stationed in freezing terrain. More troops have died there from inhospitable conditions than from hostile fire.[break]

The two-day talks that began Monday are part of a peace dialogue between the nuclear-armed neighbors.

India is going ahead with the talks despite revelations made by a Pakistani American in a trial in Chicago last week that Pakistani intelligence was involved in plotting and funding a 2008 terrorist attack in Mumbai that left 166 people dead.
