Speaking at a press conference organized in Biratnagar on Monday, Koirala said, “It is an attempt to sideline leaders following the ideology of the late party chief, Girijababu.” She further accused the party´s district selection committee of being self-centered. [break]
Warning the broker leaders, Koirala said, “I should revolt against the broker leaders as they have done me an injustice.”
Coming down heavily on the selection committee, she said, “The party district committee must correct the decision promptly.” She also accused party District President Amrit Aryal and Central Committee member Aamod Upadhyay of being prejudiced against her.
Asserting that the selection committee violated the principle of inclusiveness by not nominating candidates from different ethnic communities, Koirala said, “There should be three women candidates, one each from the indigenous, Janajati and Madhesi communities, and three others should be selected from other ethnic communities, for the nine constituencies of Morang.”
Refuting claims of the party to the contrary, she said, “I am a competent enough leader to represent women.”
However, party leader Aamod Upadhyay has said that the accusations levelled by Koirala were meaningless. “The names of the candidates have been recommended as per a convention of the regional committee,” he said. Upadhyay further said Koirala was not an active leader of Morang.
He stated that at no cost would she be selected as a candidate from Morang.
Koirala was defeated in the then Constituent Assembly (CA) election from Morang constituency no. 5.
