Illegal timber seized in Surkhet

SURKHET, Feb. 22: Forest officials seized a tractor load of timber felled illegally here on Sunday night.



District Forest Officer Bishnu Bhandari said 200 cubic feet of felled Saal trees being brought in from Chinchu of Surkhet was confiscated along with the tractor (Lu 1 Ta 8853) in Madanchaur. [break]



Earlier in a similar seizure, a truckload of timber was seized at Kalyanpur VDC few days ago.



Lately, tree felling is on the rise in Surkhet despite relentless efforts of local residents to conserve forests.
