House passes condolence motion in Koirala's honor

KATHMANDU, Feb 11: The parliament on Thursday endorsed a condolence motion in honor of former prime minister and the leader of main opposition Sushil Koirala who passed away on Tuesday at the age of 78. The proposal tabled by Speaker Onsari Gharti was endorsed unanimously.



"The meeting expresses deep condolence over the demise of Koirala who was humble and had a clean image and who had played a leading role in bringing the the new constitution as well as making its first amendment possible in his capacity as the prime minister," reads the motion. The House also expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.

The parliament observed a minute's silence to mourn the death of Koirala. The new constitution of Nepal was promulgated during the premiership of late Koirala.


He was first elected as the Member of Parliament in 1991 and again in 1999 and during the second Constituent Assembly (CA) in 2013.
