KATHMANDU, May 7: The Legislature-Parliament on Thursday endorsed two condolence motions. Today’s meeting passed two motions commiserating the death of general public and former lawmaker Chakra Prasad Thakari in the April 25 Great Earthquake.
Following the endorsement, the parliament meeting has been postponed till 1 pm on Friday.Prime Minister Sushil Koirala will address the parliament tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the Constituent Assembly (CA) scheduled for Friday has been put off till May 15.
Earlier, major parties had prepared to table a resolution motion to draw the attention of the House to the consequences of the earthquake. On request of the UCPN (Maoist), an agreement has been reached between three major parties to postpone today’s meeting after endorsing condolence motions.
UCPN (Maoist) vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha informed that the meeting of three parties held at Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar this morning decided to endorse condolence motions only. During the meeting, the UCPN (Maoist) had proposed to table resolution motion in tomorrow’s meeting of the House.
According to Shrestha, the main opposition party will table resolution motion as it had asked to summon the House’s meeting. A meeting of drafting committees of both sides scheduled for 5 pm this evening is expected to give final touch to the resolution motion.
Parliament postponed after passing condolence motions
